Russia has a law on nature protection, adopted by the State Duma in 2001, which proposes rules on how to preserve the nature of the country. The law was regularly supplemented and finalized, and the latest version has been in force since January 1, 2021.

A unified system of state monitoring of the environment has been created.

The state encourages and financially supports the development and introduction of new technologies in wastewater treatment plants.

The state funds research to develop ways to preserve and restore ecosystems.

The organization of new specially protected areas and equipping existing ones with new equipment are aimed at preserving natural ecosystems.

In accordance with the law, all enterprises, old and new, must undergo environmental expertise. According to its results, they can suspend or prohibit the activities of enterprises, and they must pay the budget for the damage caused.
